We are a Thomas family. My sons can’t get enough of the blue engine and his friends. It’s amazing how much the boys play with their train sets. It’s comforting to know that they can stretch their imaginations and play calmly and happily with their wooden railway set. I didn’t think that much could be done to improve the set. I was wrong. Learning Curve recently added to their line of Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway with the Talking Railway Series.
The Talking Railway Series uses Radio
Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to add upon the classic toys. Each wooden destination in the line includes Sir Topham Hatt who recognizes engines from the Talking Railway series. All of the pieces are compatible with your current Wooden Railway sets. I was relieved to note that they are of similar construction and are wooden. We have the Talking Railway Series Cranky the Crane and the boys love playing with him and have anticipated what Sir Topham Hatt will say next. He not only recognizes the engines from the line with their name but also speaks general comments when trains pass.
You can find all of the engines and destinations available in the Thomas & Friends Talking Railway Series at the Learning Curve site.

My toddler is obsessed–obsessed, I tellya–with Thomas. Every day the list of trains/trucks/accessories he wants grows by at least 2 or 3. But I have to say, if any of them talked or made noise I think I might pull my hair out. I enjoy listening to Harry make his trains talk to each other and I even enjoy making them talk, too (sometimes), but that’s half the fun–to see what his little toddler brain will make them say/do next. This is coming off as judgmental and that’s not at all what I mean–I just mean we’ve got enough stuff in our home that makes noise that I’m thrilled when he plays with something that lets HIM do the talking. Does that make sense?

I am hoping my son will love Thomas too. He is only 15 months and already favors Spongebob and Special Agent Oso.

My boys are are “all grown up” now. However we still have a special place for Thomas in our hearts. I gave my 17 year old a Thomas beach towel for Easter-he adored Thomas from the time he was 3. I also love to give Thomas toys to my nephews and cousins. They are the best!
