I don’t wait for summer solstice – in my book June 1st signals the beginning of summer. So what better way to celebrate summer and Father’s Day than with a new grill! Grills seems to have so many options these days – charcoal or gas, two-burner or three-burner, propane or natural gas…My husband’s not picky – he’ll grill over an open flame, but since I’m the dish-doer when he’s grilling, there is one grill that has a feature I definitely appreciate – the Kenmore 3-Burner LP Gas Grill with Removable Grate System. Let me introduce you…
First, let’s start with the outside. The sleek stainless steel exterior with black accents looks gorgeous with any outside décor and includes a built-in thermometer and a handy timer (never realized how useful it would be to have a timer on the BBQ!) In addition there is a 10,000 BTU side burner and a pull-out tool storage basket. I’ve never had a BBQ with a side burner and didn’t realize how glorious it can be on hot days to not have to use the oven or stove at all. Meat on the grill, some corn or beans in a pot on the side burner, a quick salad from the fridge and some bread – voila! Dinner is served!
Inside the Kenmore grill there are 3 porcelain-coated steel burners (that are dishwasher safe!) and 596 square inches of cooking surface including an upper rack for warming buns. My husband and I recently had a party and were able to grill 15 burgers at the same time! The electronic ignition made lighting the grill easy and the 3 burners heated up the grates in no time.
But it is the exclusive removable grate system of this Kenmore grill that is truly unique because on a hot summer the day, the last thing you want to do other than stand over a hot stove, is do a bunch of dishes. That’s right this grill does the dishes! Okay, well it doesn’t exactly do the dishes, but it saves you from using a bunch of dishes and that’s pretty much the same thing, right? Here’s how it works: Remove the center grate in the morning and begin marinating the meat right on the grate. Dishes saved: 1. Time to grill? Remove the grate from the fridge and with the grate grabber tool place it directly on the pre-heated grill. “But,” you say, “the grate that the meat is on just came out of the fridge! How will it sear the meat?” With the grill pre-heated, the grate with the meat heats up quickly and still provides beautiful grill marks – trust me, I’ve done it. When the meat is done, why dirty another plate? Remove the grate with the included grill handle, place the grate right on the serving tray and bring to the table. Dishes saved: 2. After your glorious, kitchen-free dinner is done, what should you do with the leftovers (if there are any!)? Dirty yet another container to hold your leftovers? No! Just pop the plastic lid onto the tray and put the whole thing in your fridge. Dishes saved: 3. Three less dishes means less stuff on your counter, less water used for cleaning and more time for sitting outside with a glass of Cabernet and enjoying the summer evening.
