We all know that having a cold is no fun, yet there’s still no cure. Adults can take medications to help control the symptoms of colds, but sometimes the medicine is worse than the actual cold. And, for children, there’s almost nothing they can take to relieve the symptoms, with the exception of Tylenol or Advil.
For stuffy and runny noses, one of my favorite personal remedies is to clear my nose out with salted water. I did this with a cold I had right before the Mom 2.0 Summit, and the cold was almost gone just a day after it appeared. But, this isn’t particularly easy to do, and is actually really unpleasant. So, when I heard about Afrin PureSea, a nasal spray made with pure seawater, I was eager to try it. Unlike regular Afrin, Afrin PureSea doesn’t contain any medicine, just seawater.
Afrin PureSea comes in three different forms of delivery – medium stream, gentle stream, and ultra-gentle stream. While gentle is okay for kids over the age of two, I chose to use the ultra-gentle delivery with my son, for his latest cold. While he certainly didn’t enjoy me clearing out his nostrils, I do think it helped him breathe easier.
Afrin PureSea is available at drugstores and mass retailers nationwide.
