When I told my 11 and 8 year old boys that a Shred Sled was coming for them to try out, I was officially elevated to “cool mom” status for a few days. I have to say I was a little nervous. I’m not a big fan of skateboards or kick scooters. In my mind, the Shred Sled was combining these two, and I was afraid our test runs would end up with a trip to the ER.
We watched the tutorial on theshredsled.com a few times. This is really helpful since the instructions that come in the box are minimal. As soon as the Shred Sled arrived, my boys were ready to give it a spin. I tightened up the wheels, made sure they had their helmets on, said a quick little prayer, and sent them on their way.
My initial safety fears were quickly put to rest. Unlike traditional skateboards and kick scooters, the Shred Sled is impossible to ride without some practice. In order to gain momentum on a flat surface, you need to learn to balance AND move your hips with the right action. Like riding a bike, it does take some practice, and there were more than a few tears of frustration from my youngest when he could not zoom around the neighborhood right away.
My oldest son and husband got were able to control it more quickly and had a blast! The 4 inline wheels provided a smooth ride, and my son claims it was much easier to control than similar 2-wheeled boards. I even took it out for spin. Besides being a lot of fun, it’s a great workout! As a mom, I’m always trying to find ways to keep my kids active, and this definitely does the trick.
The Shred Sled is available in black, blue or red.
