While I love vacationing at Walt Disney World at least once a year, my recent trip to Lake Placid, NY had me dreaming of a relaxing, beach vacation. My husband and I went to Aruba before we had children, and lately I’ve been thinking a lot about going back. I’d love some opinions and thoughts about what hotels and locations are best, and in the meantime, I’ve been “window-shopping” by doing some web searches to find just the right resort!
Assuming I will travel with my children, I’m looking for a family friendly hotel. Family friendly, to me, means a restaurant with kids’ menus, kids’ activities, and access to a great pool. When we went to Aruba last time, my husband and I stayed at the Renaissance Aruba Resort right in Oranjestad. While we liked it, I think next time, I’d prefer something with direct beach access. And, since I can’t imagine being without internet access, that’s pretty essential.
Of course, Aruba also has beautiful romantic hotels. My favorite, just based on photos, is this hotel, the Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort. I’ve stayed in a Hyatt Regency one other time, in Hawaii at our honeymoon, and I loved it!
Hmmm…. I think I’m ready for another vacation!

My in-laws took the boys to Aruba for spring break. They stayed at the Hyatt and had a great time! My boys were psyched because the turn down service included milk & cookies — they’re not hard to please. I’ll try to find out more about the kid-friendliness of the vacation.

I was just in Aruba in May for my wedding. We stayed at a boutique resort called the Amsterdam Manor. It was very inexpensive, clean, modern interiors yet quaint and had great customer service. They have suites and rooms that would meet the needs of a family. The hotel is almost beach front (you have to walk across a small street, but the hotel has palapas on the beach as well as a beach bar. The resort also has several different restaurants, internet access a pool and the bus stops right in front of the hotel. We found the bus to be easier, cleaner and cheaper than taxis. I do not think though that the hotel had kids activiities but I could be wrong.
I did make it over to the Hyatt during our stay it is was gorgeous as well, just a totaly different feel. I have a colleague that stays at the Hyatt every year and loves it.
