When I selected a car seat, six years ago, I did a good amount of research. My first inclination was to register for a more expensive item, but then I ended up registering for something less pricey. I felt obligated to, since my relatives had already committed to purchasing the seats for us.
And, I regretted it. The seat worked fine for my daughter, but I was never thrilled with it. I wanted the higher-rated Britax seats, and when my son was born, I went out and bought two. I love them – they are super-easy to install and adjust, and seem much more durable than the other ones I had.
Now that my daughter is entering kindergarten in the fall, we were just starting to look for new booster seats for her. Britax contacted me to review their new Frontier 85, so it was the perfect time to try it out.
The Frontier 85 works as both a 5-point harness car seat and a booster seat. Like other Britax car seats, it’s installed easily (can either work with the LATCH system or with a standard car seat). There are several color options available, including several neutral styles and an adorable pink option. We are currently using it as a 5-point harness since my daughter isn’t quite heavy enough for a booster, and she’s so proud of herself in her new big girl seat.
While I did receive one at no charge for review, I went out this past week and purchased a second seat (at full price) for my husband’s car. We loved it that much!

Disclosure: I received one seat at no charge for review, and purchased the second at a local retailer for full price.

I am a certified car seat technician and I just have to make this point. The 5 point harness is MUCH safer than the booster. Please leave your daughter in it until she reaches it’s limit. (as opposed to switching her when she is heavy enough for the booster) Many people are very quick to progress through the car seats and each change is actually exponentially less safe. My daughter is in first grade and still in a 5 point harness b/c the seat we have can harness to 60 pounds. I intend to keep her in it until she is 60 pounds.
Thanks for the advice – I will definitely do that!

Thanks for sharing this Jodi!
Like you, I had a less expensive car seat for my first son that I registered for. Soon after that we bought a Britax seat, and have continued to trust in their wonderful car seats with both my sons! I recommend them to any Mom willing to listen. I really like the quality and couldn’t put a value on the safety features. Like your daughter, my son will be starting K in the fall and he’s proud of his big boy (yet still 5 point harness) Britax car seat.
