Buying baby food is easy, but making your own at home can be just as simple – especially when you have the right tools. The Babycook by Beaba is a compact, countertop tool that defrosts, warms, steams and blends to make homemade baby food a breeze. Available in two colors – Sorbet (shown) and their new Latte/Mint – the Babycook comes with a BPA-free 2.5 cup bowl, cooking basket, spatula and recipe book making it simple to know exactly what is going in your baby’s diet.
Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Choose your desired fruits, veggies, meat, fish or grain to cook. Roughly chop so that they fit in the cooking basket.
Step 2: Add the directed amount of water into the steaming chamber, insert the basket and set the switch to cook.
Step 3: When the steaming light goes off (between 5-15 minutes depending on what you’re cooking), the remove cooking basket with food, pour off any additional steaming water (be sure to save this if you want to thin your puree!) and use the included spatula to pour the cooked food into blender.
Step 4: Blend to your desired consistency – chunky, smooth or anywhere in between!
The Babycook can make up to about half an ice cube tray or just enough for one meal. And at just 3.5- lbs. it’s a great gadget to take on vacations, overnights at grandma’s or just when you’re having dinner at a friend’s house. If you tend to make batches of baby food in advance, the Babycook is also great for defrosting or warming previous purees or easily mixing up baby-friendly foods like bananas or avocados.
Clean up is just as simple as using the Babycook – both the basket and bowl are top-rack dishwasher safe or wash up easily with soap and warm water. The included recipe book also has some inventive combinations to try like chicken, potato & eggplant and tomato & green bean soup.
Available at Williams-Sonoma and other retailers.
