Kelty Sleeping Bag

For many families, summertime means a lot more time getting outdoors. Whether you are a family that loves to bike, hike and camp or feel on the edge of your comfort zone just sleeping out under the stars in your own backyard, a Kelty sleeping bag is a great addition to your outdoor gear. Sure your kids may beg you for that Barbie or Toy Story sleeping bag, but chances are that it’s made of a few thin layers of cotton and won’t provide much comfort or warmth. Kelty, on the other hand, makes gear for people serious about the outdoors and their kid’s sleeping bags are no exception. A great choice is their Eclipse 30 Junior – a traditional, rectangular-style sleeping bag that has recently been upgraded with many new features to keep junior snug as a bug.

Highlights of the Eclipse 30 Junior?

IMG 9321 300x225 Kelty Sleeping BagWarm and cozy: A combination of Kelty’s CloudLoft™ insulation (warmth), poly-cotton liner (soft) and dual-layer, offset-quilt construction (insulation doesn’t bunch up) help the Eclipse 30 Junior provide ample warmth and comfort.

IMG 9316 300x225 Kelty Sleeping BagPillow pocket: One of the new upgrades to the Eclipse 30 Junior, the pillow pocket is made of the same soft polyester-cotton blend that the rest of the bag is lined with and can easily be filled with an actual small sized pillow (no runaway pillow in the middle of the night!) or whatever blankets or IMG 9317 300x225 Kelty Sleeping Bagclothes you have handy to make a convenient head rest. Plus, when the pocket isn’t needed or isn’t in use, it tucks away into its own zippered pocket on the sleeping bag.

Integrated storage/compression sack: No more searching for that storage bag. The Eclipse 30 Junior IMG 9319 300x225 Kelty Sleeping Baghas an integrated storage/compression sack that tucks away into the bottom of the sleeping bag and makes packing up easy.

External storage pocket: Another new upgrade is the external, zippered storage IMG 9318 300x225 Kelty Sleeping Bagpocket on the chest of the sleeping bag. If this were on my sleeping bag, it would be the perfect place to stash lip balm, earplugs or a hair tie (my top three lose-able necessities). For a kid, I’m still not quite sure what to use it for, but I can tell you that in kid-land any secret pocket = super cool.

Long use: Though this bag works great for my 4-year-old, the Eclipse fits a person up to 5′ 3″ which means he’ll get many more years of use of it.

Kid-approved: As soon as we opened this, my 4-year-old asked to take a nap in it – something he rarely does anymore – and fell soundly asleep.  He also proceeded to choose to sleep in it (on top of his bed) for the next week and can’t wait to try it out on an upcoming camping trip.
