Brrrrrr….. it’s less than 10 degrees here in the Boston suburbs today, and I hardly want to even go outside just to run to my car. Days like this make me wish for the summer, or at least the spring.
Unfortunately, cold days like this can really wreak havoc on your skin and body. So here are five easy things that you can do to keep yourself looking and feeling great.
1 – Drink Water
On days like this, you are probably tempted to just drink hot coffee and hot chocolate. But because it’s so dry in the air (and your heating system makes it even drier), it’s best to drink water as much as you can. I like to put all my water out on the counter in the morning so I know exactly how much I need to drink.
2 – Turn on your Humidifier
Not only will you benefit from the moisture in the air, you may also stay healthy when you sleep with a humidifier. Studies have shown that viruses have a difficult time thriving in moist air.
3 – Carry Around Lip Balm
I started this habit when I was on Accutane last year, and have continued it this winter. Purchase multiple lip balms (the cheap drugstore ones work great) and carry them in your purse, coat pockets, etc. Then you’ll always have one when you need it, and won’t be tempted to lick your lips (which is counter productive).
4 – Switch Out Your Makeup
Winterize your makeup collection by switching to moisturizing foundation and creamy lipstick or lipgloss If your skin is dry, you may even consider wearing a tinted moisturizer, rather than a thicker foundation.
5 – Transform Your Shower
Use a creamy body wash, rather than drying soap, and use a moisturizing conditioner on your hair. Try not to take a steaming hot shower (although it’s very tempting!), and use a moisturizer on your body right after drying off.
With these few tips, you should look and feel good during this cold weather spell!
