March, which straddles both winter and spring, is an interesting time for skin. I find that I’m still dry from the winter weather, but start to get a little more oily as the weather warms up. My adult acne is already starting to get worse, but I’m still flaky, so I have to be very diligent about moisturizing my skin. I have a few favorite moisturizers for March weather – in a variety of prize ranges. Here are my 6 favorites:
6 Great Facial Moisturizers for March Weather
Prescriptives Hope in a Jar
You can find this iconic moisturizer at department stores, Sephora, and Ulta, as well as direct from Prescriptives. It’s very moisturizing, but also includes exfoliating ingredients and helps reduce environmental damage. If you have very sensitive skin, you may find this to be too harsh, but it’s a great moisturizer for normal to oily skin. Use separate sunscreen, as this doesn’t include SPF.
Cetaphil DailyAdvance Ultra Hydrating Lotion
Cetaphil is available at mass merchandisers and drug stores, and is perfect for dry, sensitive skin. I used it daily when I was on Accutane, and continue to use it in the winter months. I also really like the Cetaphil cleansers too. This particular one doesn’t include SPF, so you’ll need to wear a separate sunscreen.
CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion
Like Cetaphil, you can find CeraVe at mass merchandisers and drug stores. I like the location that’s pictured here, which is the PM cream. It’s moisturizing, but also gently exfoliates.
Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Control Moisturizer
For those days that my skin is breaking out, I pull out this moisturizer – the Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Control Moisturizer. It does a great job of controlling acne, and is also nice and moisturizing. If your skin is overly sensitive, you may find it to be a little strong, however. It’s available in mass merchandisers and drug stores.
Aveeno Active Naturals Small Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer
This moisturizer smells fabulous and is my favorite go-to moisturizer. It doesn’t exfoliate, but does include SPF 15. It’s gentle and works great to moisturize well without being too oily or greasy.
La Mer The Moisturizing Lotion
I know, I know… at $230, this is nothing like the reasonably priced moisturizers above. But La Mer’s moisturizing lotion is something special. I certainly don’t use it all the time – I simply can’t afford that – I have used it at certain times. For instance, during my second pregnancy, I was starting to get discoloration on my face (known as the “mask” of pregnancy.) I used La Mer and not only did the “mask” stop spreading – it went away. That’s not to say everyone will get the same results, but this is a very special moisturizer. If you do decide to try it, definitely use the tester at a cosmetics counter to make sure you love it. You can find it at Saks, Neiman Marcus, and select Nordstroms.
