When my oldest child was around 18 months, she went on a high chair ban. She refused to sit in it, refused to eat in it, and spent her time in it trying to escape. I was at a loss for what to do. Obviously, she was too small for a big chair and I didn’t feel comfortable using a booster seat as a permanent solution. After lots of research and in store searching, I purchased a Tripp Trapp by Stokke.
The Tripp Trapp is a solid wood seat that can hold up to 300 pounds - so it will continue to be a useful piece of furniture as your child gets bigger! It also has a footrest, which is something the other solutions are lacking. The footrest will help support your child so that his legs aren’t just dangling, and will help prevent discomfort. Because the Tripp Trapp is solid wood, it’s extremely easy to clean. You can also purchase a cushion for the Tripp Trapp, as well as a baby rail (so that you can use the Tripp Trapp with children as young as 6 months old)!
The Tripp Trapp does not come with a tray, as it is meant to be pushed right up to your existing dining room table, so that your child will not feel isolated from you. This works out great, and also helps prevent boredom. My oldest was too small to fit at our table, but we set up a small tray table in front of the Tripp Trapp and that has worked just as well. After using the Tripp Trapp I am happy to say that she was more than happy to sit in it, and all of the problems with the high chair were gone!
The Stokke Tripp Trapp can be purchased at many upscale baby stores or at Amazon.com.
