When both of my kids started on solid foods, I was so confused with what to do and what to use. Even with my second, I couldn’t remember what worked and what didn’t. Here are our favorite items that we used when transitioning to solids - we’d love any suggestions or comments on the blog or in the forums.
When we started with solids, I really preferred wipe off bibs to the cloth bibs we had been using for drool. These bibs are our favorites - we still have them for our infant - One Step Ahead Bibs.
For both kids, we really liked the spoons with the rubbery surface on the spoon, because our kids were teething when we introduced solids and therefore often bit down on the spoons. We always put the food in separate bowls so that we wouldn’t contaminate the whole jar if they didn’t finish it. (we love the disposable bowls available at any Toys R Us, Target, or Walmart).
One you start on finger foods, be prepared for a messy floor. We have found this vacuum cleaner to be absolutely essential - Shark 3-Speed Vacuum. For finger foods on the go, these snack traps are great, because the snacks won’t spill if the container falls (and it will fall!) - Snack Traps
In future posts, we’ll talk about our favorite high chairs, and we also have reviews coming up on more solid feeding products.

When I was trying to figure out the solid food “thing”, I bought the SO Easy Baby Food Kit. It’s a kit to make your own baby food. But it is more than just recipes and storage trays. It is a complete guide to introducing solids, nutrition information, food allergies, etc…The Kit teaches you to make food once a week then freeze it. It really is so easy. You also save a ton of $$$. You should check it out.
