Recently I’ve been introduced to a neat set of DVDs in the BookBox series. These are DVDs that have more in common with storybooks then with many of the children series out there. BookBox utilizes something called ’same language subtitling.’ Pictures and narration from the story are synchronized with subtitles in either English or a variety of other languages including Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian. It’s basically karaoke for readers.

Each BookBox DVD includes a variety of short stories. We enjoyed Enchanting Christmas Stories and Stories from Around the World. We found the stories to be very cute and entertaining while educative. I could definitely see using these DVDs to help my own developing second language skills.
