When learning about social skills, kids learn the most by watching and interacting with us, their parents. We show them how to patiently wait for a turn, we encourage them to make eye contact, help their friends, and a whole lot of other important skills. As we all know, it’s good to have back up, especially the kind that includes songs, bright colors and maybe a big dog or dragon. The Wheels on the Bus Series is a great DVD series to do just that by modeling social skills such as helping others and sharing (and it happens to include dogs and a dragon).
A new installment in the series is out for release on January 22. “Mango’s Big Dog Parade” is all about taking turns and getting along. The episode is specifically geared for toddlers aged 2 to 4. It features Roger Daltrey of The Who as Argon the Dragon and follows Mango as he helps a young dog who has missed his ride to the Big Dog Parade. The episode is cute, fun, and just the right thing to spark a fun lesson about taking turns with your child. We enjoyed it and I know I can always bring up the lessons we learned with Mango in the future. The songs will definitely help with that. They are snappy and easy to remember.
