Preparing For and Documenting Your Baby’s Appointments

March 18th, 2008

HealthPod Baby Health organizerWhen I brought my baby for her first pediatrician appointment after she was born, I was truly amazed at the amount of paperwork and records that we needed to maintain.  It was even worse with my son, who had several small medical complications which required multiple doctors visits at different offices.

Several months ago, one of our readers alerted us to a product she loves, called the HealthPod Baby.  The HealthPod is a planner/organizer, which you can use from pregnancy though your child’s first years.  It was created by a group of moms who wanted to help keep their babies’ records organized to ensure they get the best care possible for their baby.

The HealthPod Baby includes several important sections, such as planning calendars, growth charts, milestone lists, health visit sheets, and pull out newborn charts to keep track of feedings and wet diapers.  By keeping everything in one place, you can answer any question your pediatrician may have, and record what she says so that you’ll remember it later.

I especially like the health visit sheets.  Since a month or more can go by between appointments, I use these sheets to keep track of any questions I want to remember to ask.  The HealthPod Baby is also great for recording specialist appointments.   Because my son sees several specialists, I like to have records of all of the visits at my fingertips at my son’s well visits.  That way, I talk to my pediatrician about these visits, and note any medication or test that my son has had.

The moms behind the HealthPod really thought of everything - the cover is hard, so that you can write on it while holding a squirmy baby.  It also keeps its shape in stuffed diaper bag.  There are helpful tips included throughout the organizer.    The HealthPod Baby also includes several plastic pockets to hold miscellaneous items, a mesh pocket, and a pen.  You can purchase a HealthPod Baby at http://www.healthpod.ca.  Sign up for our newsletter for the chance to win one of your own later this month!
