My New Favorite Curling Iron

by Jodi on September 2, 2010

Although I used a curling iron on my teenage stick-straight hair (oh, how I wish for that hair now), I stopped using one sometime in high school.  During my Suave party back in January, my stylist used one to give my hair some body and I really liked how it looked.  So, I’ve been looking for just the right curling iron to work with my stubborn hair.

At the Getting Gorgeous party at BlogHer, Remington previewed their newest straight irons and curling irons, and sent attendees home with samples.  I have really liked using the clipless curling iron, which is so easy to use.  You just wrap your hair around the cone-shaped iron, and voila!  Curls!

I couldn’t find the Remington iron online yet, but I did find a link to one by Conair – a similar shape, although I can’t speak to the performance.  I believe the Remington version is coming out this fall – so keep an eye out for it.

Update: The Remington is now available online at Ultra.com!

Disclosure: I received several items from Remington in my Getting Gorgeous swag bag – including this curling iron.

Spanx Assets at BlogHer

by Jodi on September 2, 2010

SSlim hangtag prv 245x300 Spanx Assets at BlogHerSurely you’ve heard of Spanx before, right?  As a mom who definitely doesn’t have the ab muscles I used to have, Spanx are a dream.  Seriously, these things are beloved by women everywhere.  Just one problem….. they aren’t cheap.

Enter Spanx Assets.  This line, originally only available in Target, offers the same great benefits as traditional Spanx, but at a lower price.  Spanx Assets was at BlogHer, and although the booth was manned by size 2 ladies who didn’t need Spanx, it was packed with women looking to try them out.  And yes, I was among them.

Having worn regular Spanx for a while, I do notice a small difference with Assets (which probably justifies the higher price) but Spanx Assets do work really well.  They have held up with several washings, and wear well.

To learn more about Spanx Assets, visit their website.

Disclosure: I received Spanx Assets at BlogHer at no cost.

Swash and Go From Tide

by Jodi on September 1, 2010

swash Swash and Go From TideI hate ironing.  I mean, I REALLY hate ironing.  I’ll do it, but honestly, I’d prefer just wear something else, or toss the whole outfit back in the dryer for a bit.  I learned about Tide Swash back at BlogHer – it was being demonstrated at the Getting Gorgeous party, and I was so impressed with how it works.

Tide Swash is currently only available online, but it’s absolutely worth the purchase.  While it’s made primarily for cotton, it works for other materials too.  You just stretch out the clothing, then spray a light layer of the Swash.  Use your hands to spread out the wrinkles, and voila!  Wrinkles are gone!

I very quickly went through the bottle I got at BlogHer, because I’ve used it almost everyday, and have already bought two more.  Not only are they great for home, they are the perfect size for travel.

You can buy Swash Smooth It Out – Clothing Dewrinkler at Amazon.com Swash and Go From Tide.

Disclosure: I received a free bottle of Swash at BlogHer, and the link is an affiliate link.

WScoopNeck2 Sponsored Post: Ramblers Way Farm Sustainable WoolI had the chance recently to take a look at some of the products from Ramblers Way Farm, a company from the founders of Tom’s of Maine (one of my favorite companies!).  Ramblers Way Farm makes lightweight wool clothing – none of the thick, itchy, hot wool from your childhood here.

I’d love to have a $200 shopping spree with Ramblers Way – I’ve been admiring some of the products.  I especially love the Scoop Neck Short Sleeve Top pictured here, which is perfect for layering since it’s long and lightweight.  I also really like the long-sleeved Henley.

The nice things about these products is that are good for year-round, as the wool is superfine and worsted.  To be worsted, the wool fiber has to be removed of all of those itchy “nubs” so it’s thinner, more comfortable, and not itchy.  In addition, the wool is “superfine” – which means each fiber is softer and thinner than standard wools.  This makes each piece of clothing from Ramblers Way Farm appropriate for each season of the year, and perfect for layering.

I also love the fact that Ramblers Way Farm practices sustainability farming.  They move their flocks around and maintain clean facilities.  Currently, they own about 50 sheep, and plan to add more.

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Ramblers Way. All opinions are 100% mine.

While I haven’t actually had the opportunity to see/review Flipped, the new coming-of-age film by Rob Reiner, I did get the chance to participate in a conference call with a handful of mom bloggers.  Rob and Penelope Ann Miller, one of the film’s stars, talked about their involvement in the film and how important it is to them.

The movie, which is based on a book by Wendelin Van Draanen, is set in the late 50s.  Rob decided to make the movie after his son came home with the book and loved it.  The story follows two young neighbors, and is told of the viewpoint of both the male character and the female character.  The story starts with the young woman having a crush on the young man, but through the story, the situation reverses.  Rob directed the movie, while Penelope plays one of the moms.

Both Rob and Penelope gave high compliments to the young male and female leads – especially the young woman.  And, both of them are very passionate about this movie – they feel that it’s timeless and it has received high-marks from all of the teens and preteens who view it.

Have you seen it?  What did you think?

Hanes – My Favorites for the Whole Family

by Jodi on August 29, 2010

It’s rare that there’s a brand that works for our whole family.  But Hanes is absolutely one of those brands, because they make  comfortable, well-made products that we just want to buy over and over again.

This year, at BlogHer in NYC, I was invited by my friend Colleen to attend the Hanes Blogger Event at Nikki Beach in Midtown Manhattan.  The laid-back, relaxing location was perfect for this event.  At the party, we indulged in Comfortinis, got hand and foot massages, and learned about the new Hanes products including the ComfortFlex Fit Bandini Bra (which can be worn in a variety of ways – to fit under any top).  We also had the chance to chat with beauty and style expert Jenn Falik and professional interior designer/organizer Michael Moloney (from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition).

After I got home, I was completely inspired to clean through my underwear drawer, which definitely needed some thinning.  And, I’m planning on purchasing some of the new products I learned about – not only the bras but the tanks (as soon as I can find them).  What a great start to BlogHer!

Journaling Your Baby’s Early Days

by Jodi on August 27, 2010

I remember those early days with my two babies – it was constant record-keeping of dirty diapers and feedings, as well as those small milestones that seem to happen daily with a baby.  Mom Amanda found that with all of the charts and paperwork associated with a newborn, there was definitely room for improvement, so she created the Little Bundle of Journal.

The Little Bundle of Journal is not only a list of diaper changes and feedings – it’s also a journal and baby book.  Each and every day, mom and dad can record their daily emotions, thoughts, goals, and ideas along with the daily “stats” of the new baby.  It comes in pink, blue, and green, and is a great unique baby shower gift, or a gift for a new baby.

My kids, especially my preschooler, absolutely love playing with dough – they love molding it, working it, shaping it.  But, they don’t do a great job of putting the dough back in the containers, or of putting the lids on the containers, which means we typically end up with loads of dried out useless clay.

I hadn’t heard of Moon Dough before being offering a review through Team Mom, but honestly, my first impression was that it was similar to that “other” moon product, which has been banned from my home after my kids made a gigantic mess in my living room.  But Moon Dough is very different.  It’s a pliable dough that can be molded, yet it’s wheat free and doesn’t dry out.

Moon Dough comes out in a few different kits – we received the Barn kit which is actually great for both of my kids.  It’s fun to play with, easy to use, and is a big fan with my kids.

I’m a total sucker for rock operas and symphonies, being both a fan of classical music and rock music.  So I can’t stop playing David Garrett’s new CD – Rock Symphonies, where the classically trained violinist reinvents hits such as Smells Like Teen Spirit and Walk This Way.  The CD is all-instrumental compositions with just a bit of vocals, but it still packs quite a punch.  I like to use it as background music for working or cleaning up – it’s not distracting, but is still entertaining.

I enjoy the entire CD, but my personal favorite is Vivaldi vs. Vertigo, where the U2 song is played in a battled with Vivaldi – it’s truly amazing!

You can purchase Rock Symphonies Classical Rock Symphonies for Todays Generations at Amazon.com.

Disclosure: I received the Rock Symphonies at no cost through Music Moms, and the link is an affiliate link.

clorox Cloroxs Power a Bright Future Grant ProgramImagine a world without school sports, music or arts programs. Recently, nationwide budget cuts threaten to make this a reality. The Clorox Company understands that these programs can be critical to a child’s educational experience, building both academic and social skills. As part of the brand’s long-term commitment to schools and keeping childrens’ futures happy, healthier and shining bright, Clorox is launching the 2010 Power A Bright Future grant contest to help fund these vital school programs.

About the Power A Bright Future Grant Program

• Power A Bright Future is a grant program aimed at providing necessary resources to help support school programs that enrich kids’ lives.

• As part of Power A Bright Future, Clorox is calling on individuals to nominate schools in need for a chance to win a $50,000 grand-prize grant or one of three $20,000 grants to help provide critically needed resources to schools programs that enrich kids’ lives and create brighter futures.

• In November, four schools will be chosen to receive grants and the opportunity to impact the lives of children in their communities.

How can I get involved?

There are two ways to get involved – by nominating a school program or by voting for your favorite nomination.
• To nominate your school, visit www.clorox.com from August 12 to September 27, 2010 and upload a photo and a short summary of how the grant would be used. Choose one of three categories that best represents the program: Learn, Play or Create.
o Learn: Education-focused programs (e.g. establishing a school recycling program)
o Play: Sports and exercise-focused programs (e.g. building a playground)
o Create: Arts-focused programs (e.g. funding an after-school music program)

• Once nominations are closed, visit www.clorox.com from October 4 to November 1 to vote for your favorite program. It is up to America to choose the winner!
o The program that receives the highest number of votes will be awarded the $50,000 grand-prize grant; the next top three vote-getters will each be awarded a $20,000 grant. The final Power A Bright Future grant winners will be announced in December.

• To increase your favorite program’s chances of winning, vote early and often! Also, visit www.clorox.com for more information about the instant win games.

Disclosure: Earlier this month, I attended Clorox’s 2010 BlogHer session where I learned more about the Power a Bright Future program and received free product samples and giveaways.  Clorox also provided me with the wording for this post.
