When I was originally registering for baby products, I read that I needed a diaper pail. Ok, being totally honest here, I had never changed a diaper until my own children were born. So, I was pretty lost in this category. I made my decision based purely on economics - the Diaper Genie required me to purchase their refills, while the Diaper Champ didn’t. So, the Diaper Champ made it onto my registry.
I really loved the Diaper Champ, although to be completely honest here, no diaper pail really works 100%. And, then, came the day where my oldest figured out how to work it. Suddenly, all of her toys and everything else in the house, became fair game to be entered into the Diaper Champ. After fishing a pacifer out, I decided to try the Diaper Genie.
If you’ve never seen or used a Diaper Genie, it’s very hard to explain how it works. The refill goes in the top, you have to tie it, and then you insert the diaper and twist. This contraption actually seals in the diaper. When you are ready to empty it, you press the scissors button on the top, twist, pull the bag out of the bottom, tie it, and toss it!
Honestly, this isn’t the easiest thing to use. The plus side of that is that I am no longer fishing household objects out. So, which pail do I like best? I’m going to hedge here and say that I really think you should have both. The Diaper Champ is perfect for young kids, while the Genie works best once they can work the Champ.
Both the Diaper Champ and the Diaper Genie can be purchased anywhere that sells baby products.
