While I used a baby carrier with my first child, I really found a variety of quality carriers to be an absolute necessity with my second child.  Not only was wearing my second child essential while taking care of both kids - it makes shopping with two kids easier!  In addition, my son absolutely loves to be held close to me whenever he’s feeling sick.
