There isn’t much in life as exciting as our own history. Of course, there is definitely room for fiction. I’ve always enjoyed reading books and watching movies and documentaries about our history, as does my husband. We’d love for our children to love it as much. Unfortunately, I remember finding much of the movies or television programs based on real events or persons stuffy and boring, as a child. Lucky for them, children of today have History’s Heroes, a 3-D animated series highlighting events from the history of America.
On February 12 Paul Revere: Midnight Ride, the latest installment of the series, was released. It is an enjoyable account narrated by Ellie the Eagle and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson. Attention grabbing and fun, the DVD would be perfect for children over the age of 8, at home and in school. With so much drama and excitement, I think this is a great way to introduce children to our own history.
Paul Revere: Midnight Ride can be found here. Educators may be interested in checking out the extended education edition that includes quizzes, discussion questions, and classroom projects.
