Last week I introduced you to two of my new favorite organic, homemade-ish baby food brands – Yummy Spoonful and Healthy Times. (You can read the whole review here.) This week, I want to introduce you to the delectable baby food organic offerings by Homemade Baby and pomme bébé.
Homemade Baby - If you want fresh homemade baby food, look no further than Homemade Baby. They claim to be the only baby food brand that is not frozen or jarred and since their food truly is fresh, it’s amazing to see the color and taste difference when compared to traditional jarred foods. Homemade Baby uses all certified organic ingredients and their meals are gluten-free and certified kosher. Like many of the other brands, they offer meals in three consistency levels – So Smooth, Good Mushy, and Kinda Chunky. So Smooth offers 6 single ingredient meals including Just Peas, Just Squash and Just Pears. Good Mushy includes 2 unique blends – Squapples (squash/apples) and Piwi (pears/kiwi) and Kinda Chunky comes in Yummy Yammies (lentils/yams/veggies) and Baby Tex Mex (rice/beans/veggies). The packaging is BPA and phthalate free and you can conveniently microwave the food right in the container it comes in. I can’t say that I was as much of fan of the taste of these ones, but my son hungrily devoured all the samples I put in front of him so I think the jury has spoken. Also, for what you get, Homemade Baby is downright reasonable – 4 oz. singles run $1.25-$1.50 and be on the look out for the recently released new twin-packs. Homemade Baby is available in the refrigerated section of many local supermarkets including Lazy Acres, Whole Foods and others.
pomme bébé – What makes baby food by pomme bébé different? Their baby meals are made by a chef. That’s right – when he’s not working as an Executive Chef at the Laguna Culinary Arts Professional Chef Program, award-winning Chef Brazier spends his time concocting delicious combinations for your little one to munch on. pomme bébé offers Basics, Blends and Tots that include a number of staples as well as seasonal specials such as Nectarine Apple, Melon Apricot and Tofu Stir Fry available for summer. My son tried out their Peas, Pears and Apricot-Pear-Kiwi blend and gave them a sitting “O” – “O” for open mouth, the universal sign for “more please!” Servings can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to two months and be ordered online, over the phone or in person at their bébé bar, pomme bébé’s tasting room and brick-and-mortar store in Newport Beach, CA. While pomme bébé gets rave reviews for taste, your wallet may not be so enthused– each 4 oz. serving will run you between $3.25 for most Basics and Blends up to $4.50 for the Tot meals.
