Getting Ready for Holiday Travel

travelingmama Getting Ready for Holiday Travel It’s getting closer and closer until we’ll be leaving on a jet plane to visit our families. It’ll involve two flights, at least one ferry ride, and some moderate car travel. It’s all definitely worth it. We love seeing our families, enjoying some of our favorite foods, catching up with friends, and just enjoying being back ‘home.’ Unfortunately, first, we need to get totally prepared for the trip. If you’ll be traveling during the holidays, you may just want to look through my first steps and see what you need to get through too.

Check with your airline on baggage costs and restrictions. Since the rules have changed since the last time we flew, and you never know when they’ll change again, it’s important to make sure you’ve packed only as much as you’re allowed or that you are prepared to pay for.

If like us, you are traveling into a different climate, you’ll want to make sure you’re well prepared for the cold (or the heat). Look through your children’s wardrobes to make sure you have enough of the weather-appropriate clothing for them. We need to run out and purchase winter coats (or borrow) and long pants.

For your little one’s entertainment, pick out some special toys to put aside away from play for the next few weeks. You’ll want something that will feel new and keep their attention as you drive or fly to your destination. I love the Take Along Thomas trains, since my sons love playing with them and they are so portable.

If you’re traveling with children that need car seats, decide whether you’ll be purchasing a portable car seat on wheels, a special gadget that attaches to your car seat that adds wheels, or if you’ll be humping it across the airport on your own. We’ll be traveling with the Sit ‘n’ Stroll this time for our oldest. You can find a review of it here.

These are just the first few steps on my traveling to do list in the few weeks before we depart. What’s on your ‘to do’ list for holiday travel?
