I have a three year old and a two year old. I’m sure you can imagine what that means…we have the occasional…or not so occasional trouble with getting either boy to do certain necessary tasks. For my oldest, we’ve had trouble getting him to practice his writing, keeping him in bed at night, and brushing his teeth. We’ve tried all sorts of reinforcements but when our Behavior Buddies Goalkeeper arrived, we put it to work immediately.
First up, we made our very own goal magnet with the words “practice writing.” We also filled in what the reward would be and how many stars or actual sessions of practice he needed. It worked and my son loved putting his star on and was even more excited when he earned his reward. The next goal was to work on staying in bed at night. The little man loves to jump out once we put him down, but after knowing that he would be earning more stars it kept him in his room AND in his bed. Recently, we added the goal of brushing teeth. We chose this one later because it is surely one of the harder things for us to do with him, day and night. With a reminder of his stars and the reward he has chosen….the act of tooth brushing has become a bit easier too.
The Behavior Buddies Goalkeeper comes with 24 magnets with illustrated pictures for common goals, along with 4 blank rectangles to be filled out with personalized goals. The kit also comes with 30 stars, one dry-erase marker, and a parent handbook. The handbook is very helpful and lays out some useful tips on how to set up a reward program for your children. I love that the chart only needs to be placed on a magnetic surface like the refrigerator. Nothing needs to be hammered in and there is no stickiness involved. Best of all, I love how invested my son has become in reaching his own goals and earning rewards. This set provides you with most of the tools you’ll need to create a simple and effective reward system (you’ll have to throw in the rewards that your child will find the most rewarding of all).
Behavior Buddies is offering a 20% discount for our readers thru April 30. Please click here to receive the discount while shopping.
This contest is closed. Congratulations to Rosanne and Christine! In addition to such a great deal, we are hosting a giveaway for two Behavior Buddies Goalkeepers. Leave a comment below on which goals you would like to work on with your child and you will be entered into this contest. Two winners will be chosen randomly. This contest is open until April 1. cut out the terrible twos hissy fits of my grandson
1. Not having to have a huge long discussion when I ask her to do something or say ‘no’.
2. WHINING!!!!
I could really use one of these!
I’d really like to work on accepting the answer the first (or even 2nd time) and not having to be asked the same ? 10 times.
I would love to win!
I’d like to work on not whining (my 5 year old) and being more gracious about helping when asked (my 8 year old!)
I could so use this!! My daughter is in need of some motivation. Thanks for the chance.

right now, we’re working on patience and whining.
My little guy is too small for this still, but I have a good friend I would love to give it to, and she is working on two goals with her two year old: not throwing his toys (a constant battle), and putting his toys away. Her son responds really well to time-out, and reasoning, so I think this chart would really be a fun way to help them out.
I would like to work on the sibling conflicts. Seems like everyday all day my daughters are at it.
Thank you!

I’ve been looking for something just like this for my 4 and 5 year olds. I’d like them to work on making their beds, cleaning up toys, brushing teeth, homework and reading. They also do light housework like help dust and sweep.

Our goals right now include practicing writing and trying new foods. Both are a struggle, so we would absolutely love a positive incentive. These sound wonderful! Thanks for the chance to enter!
Our goal would be to work on math and turning in assignments.
1) when mom and dad say to do or not to do something we shouldnt have to say it more than once
2) actions result in consequences – you just cant do whatever you want especially after being told no
We are working on bedtime and no wetting the beds.
I would love to have this to help our work on my son’s whining habit. Thanks for the chance, justicecw@hotmail.com
Do you also use Behavior Buddies with your 2-year-old or is it geared more to kids who are 3+?
I’d like to work on the following “goal” with our 2-year-old: (1) sleeping until the morning in her bed all by herself. I’m sure there are others as well, but that’s the first one that comes to mind.
