I don’t have a GPS device – my husband does, and we share it, but honestly, that was one of my favorite features of the two Nissans that I test drove this summer. So I was thrilled to learn about the AT&T Navigator iPhone app, developed by TeleNav, because I thought it was a great option to have on my iPhone for the times when I don’t have the GPS in my car.
The AT&T Navigator is a free download, but the service requires a monthly fee that is included on your cell phone bill. Once you have service, you have to sign in once, and then you can launch it automatically. It’s easy to input the address of your destination, and it’s also integrated with the contacts on the iPhone – so you can choose a contact rather than typing an address.
Once the Navigator has your destination programmed, it quickly finds the best route, and even gets traffic information, something a standard GPS doesn’t always do. It offers voice directions, and when you make a wrong turn, it easily recalibrates to get you back on track. There’s only one downside – because it’s an iPhone app, you have limited use of the other features of the phone – not a problem if I’m driving, but when I’m in the passenger seat I like to surf the Web.
TeleNav works with every major cell phone provider to offer a wide variety of GPS options, regardless of the phone you use. To learn more, visit the TeleNav Web site.
Disclosure: I received a 6-month subscription to this service for purposes of review.
