Marcal Small Steps Paper Products

by Jodi on April 26, 2010

Are you looking to make small steps to become more eco-friendly this Earth month?  Marcal Small Steps is a new product line made from 100% premium recycled paper rather than trees. If every household in the U.S. replaced one package of traditional toilet paper with Marcal Small Steps, we could help save nearly one million trees. My home could save two trees per year by switching to paper products made from 100% recycled materials instead of trees.

Marcal isn’t pricey either, and the products work well. I replaced all of our paper products (paper towels, toilet paper, napkins) with a Marcel starter kit that was sent to me, and no one in the house even noticed (except of course, my sister, who wondered where my beloved but not Earth-friendly Vivas had gone).

Win It: Marcal is offering one Mom’s Favorite Stuff reader a starter kit with one of each product.  US Residents Only.  Giveaway ends 5/10 at 11:59 ET.   For more giveaway rules, click here. Congrats to our winner Helen!

I buy the paper napkins all the time and I think they are a great product and very reasonably priced. I haven’t tried the paper towels or toilet paper yet.

If Marcal is so concerned about the environment, why don’t they:
1) Tell us how to use less paper. There are many ways. Cloth napkins, hanky’s and towels all make much more eco-sense. You can use discarded clothes, and be much more green
2) Stop shipping product made in NJ, across the US. That would make a much bigger environmental impact.
3) Clean the river next to their plant, that they have polluted for 50 years and destroyed. Why not clean that up, with their illicit, false green claims to make profits? You can’t walk away from your past. Even though they are trying. Try and really be green, not pretend to be green.
And a good PR campaign can win many awards. But facts, when properly examined, speak for themselves. If you think Marcal is eco-friendly, you have not done your homework.

Editor’s Note: Andy, I appreciate your comment. While I agree that cloth can be better, it’s not an option for toilet paper, obviously, and I always appreciate a step in the right direction by companies.
