Disclosure: We received this product at no cost for review – all opinions are my own.
Like most kids these days, my kids love technology. As a busy traveling family, I like having these types of devices for my kids to play while we are on the go. When we recently received the new LeapPad Ultra to try out, my kids ripped open the package and immediately started using them.
LeapPad Ultra Review and Giveaway
The LeapPad Ultra features some improvements from the prior generation, including a larger screen than the LeapPad 2. My kids were quick to notice that the 7-inch screen is definitely bigger – so it’s a noticeable difference. The touchscreen is fairly responsive and very easy to navigate. Another improvement we are absolutely thrilled about is the included AC adapter. We went through lots of batteries with the old LeapPad, so this is a welcome change. The new LeapPad Ultra also connects to WiFi, and apps can be downloaded via WiFi instead of connecting to the computer, making it better for travel (parents are required to enter a special password to manage the WiFi settings). If you’ve got more than one device, some of the games offer peer-to-peer play so the kids can play with or against each other. My kids especially love this feature, because they enjoy playing against each other. Additional apps, videos, and eBooks can be purchased through the Leapfrog app center as a download (and through WiFi!) or in store as a cartridge.
The main negative I can see to the LeapPad Ultra is the app price. Families that are used to the price of iPad apps will be surprised to see the prices.
Overall, I think this is a great product for young kids, and it’s perfect for travel! My kids are 7 & (almost) 9, and they both love it!You can find the LeapPad Ultra on Amazon.com.
