Partying Under the Sea

For my son’s 6th birthday, he wanted an “Under the Sea” party at home.   I think he loves seeing all of the effort that we put into our home parties – all just for him.   While he just wanted games and free play, I wasn’t ready to have a dozen boys at my home with nothing structured planned.   So, I sought out an animal/reptile show, and ended up booking Curious Creatures.

While I found so many gorgeous “Under the Sea” cakes for purchase, my son wanted me to make cupcakes.   A quick Google search brought up this easy-to-make pull-apart turtle cupcake cake and my son approved.   He also asked me to make some chocolate lollipops, and we found some perfect molds at Michael’s.

They took hours to make, and I totally forgot to give them out to the kids :(

I made two of the turtle cakes, and since I figured we needed extras, I made some quick froggy ones. They were a huge hit!

The animal show, however, was definitely the highlight of the party.   Yes, that is a skunk in my yard.   And a frog on my hand.   I loved that little chinchilla – he was so soft and cuddly.   She also brought two turtles, three snakes, a flying squirrel and….

I didn’t get a photo of our goody bags – we filled beach pails with paint books, squirty toys, beach balls, bubble lanyards, and a few other under the sea goodies.   We also had a pinata which was a crazy idea.   Although we did the string pull type of pinata (and coincidentally my son got the string that opened the pinata), it was insanity when the pinata opened.

Overall, we had a great party!   I just wish I remembered those lollipops!
