There’s something about light, breezy chick-lit that makes the genre perfect for beach and pool reading. Although I spend last summer devouring heavier fare like Gone Girl and Defending Jacob, this year I’m looking for some “fluffier” books for my days in the sun. While most of the summer beach read books aren’t released yet, I like to preorder them from Amazon. They guarantee the best price, and the books will be downloaded directly to my Kindle when they are released. Based upon my experience with these authors, these are the books I’ve already preordered.
Wedding Night: A Novel – Sophie Kinsella – released 4/23/13
Sophie Kinsella, author of the Shopaholic series of books (which are WAY better than the movie was), is the ultimate chick-lit author. Her books are fun and easy to read.
Family Pictures: Jane Green – released 3/19/13
Like Sophie Kinsella’s books, Jane Green’s are easy to read and are fun. I’ve liked some of them more than others, but every one I’ve read has been worth reading.
Revenge Wears Prada: Lauren Weisberger – released 6/4/13
I haven’t loved Lauren’s post-Prada books, but this one is a sequel and I’m so interested to see what happens with our heroine Andy Sacks.
Beautiful Day: A Novel: Elin Hilderbrand – released 6/25/13
Elin’s books are a bit different than the others I’ve listed here, but I really enjoy here work. All of her novels are set in Nantucket, so they really are a great beach read. They are also a little less “fluffy” than typical chick-lit, and there’s usually some sort of mystery or twist to keep the book interesting.
Not listed here (because it isn’t coming out until fall) is my sister’s first novel, which is coming out both in print and eBook. You may remember that my sister used to blog regularly here, and I’m very excited to read her book when it comes out (no, I haven’t read it yet .)
What’s on your summer reading list?
