While I haven’t actually had the opportunity to see/review Flipped, the new coming-of-age film by Rob Reiner, I did get the chance to participate in a conference call with a handful of mom bloggers. Rob and Penelope Ann Miller, one of the film’s stars, talked about their involvement in the film and how important it is to them.
The movie, which is based on a book by Wendelin Van Draanen, is set in the late 50s. Rob decided to make the movie after his son came home with the book and loved it. The story follows two young neighbors, and is told of the viewpoint of both the male character and the female character. The story starts with the young woman having a crush on the young man, but through the story, the situation reverses. Rob directed the movie, while Penelope plays one of the moms.
Both Rob and Penelope gave high compliments to the young male and female leads – especially the young woman. And, both of them are very passionate about this movie – they feel that it’s timeless and it has received high-marks from all of the teens and preteens who view it.
