October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and bloggers everywhere are getting daily pitches about pink items made especially for this month. If you are already planning to buy something, and there’s a “pink” version, and you want to buy it, go for it. But, I’d rather use this space to write about how I’ll be recognizing breast cancer awareness month.
This year, some of my friends are directly affected by breast cancer. The Disney Moms Panel lost one of our own earlier this year to breast cancer, and I have other friends who are fighting strong. For breast cancer awareness month, my hope is to personally raise awareness – because with this disease, early detection could potentially make all of the difference.
Join me in remembering to follow all appropriate guidelines for detection. Do your monthly self-checks, and see your doctor as recommended. And, if you feel something that’s potentially serious, don’t dismiss it. Go to the doctor, even though it can be scary. Encourage your loved ones to do the same – and offer to go along with them if they need support.
Of course, if you have the means, then it’s always a great idea to donate to your choice of charities, but don’t just buy a pink stapler and consider yourself done. Awareness is the key here.
How will you be recognizing breast cancer awareness month?
