On Wednesday night, I had the pleasure of taking Daniel to see Annie live at the Boch Center Wang Theatre. His brother and sister have been seeing shows with me for a couple of years now but Daniel had never been. He is not my “theater type” child but more my “run around in the mud and play ball” child so I had held off on taking him to see a real production. When I was offered tickets to see Annie though I knew this would be the perfect show for him.
Disclosure: Diane received free tickets to facilitate her review.
We had an awesome time from start to finish of the evening. When we left the parking garage to walk to the show, he took my hand and held it the whole way. Although I tell him that he’ll always be my baby, he is my rough and tumble six year old and I can’t even remember the last time he held my hand. Upon entering the Wang Theatre he was in awe of the high, painted ceilings and amazing craftsmanship. It’s so fun to see things new again through the eyes of your child seeing it for the first time.
It was then time to head to our seats for the start of the show – and what an amazing show it was! The Tony Award-winning production did not disappoint. The performance was flawless. From stunning scenario, to impeccable choreography, to marvelous vocals, the show was magnificent. I always marvel at the pure talent of the actors especially Annie and her orphan friends. The talent that the children possess is really remarkable. Annie is played by Angelina Carballo who is only twelve years old!
One of my favorite parts of the show was looking over and seeing Daniel singing along to “Tomorrow” and “It’s The Hard Knock Life.” And he wasn’t the only one. People of all ages couldn’t help but do a little dance in their seats and sing along. There was an energy to the show that was irresistible.
If you get a chance, I highly recommend seeing a performance of Annie. The family -friendly show is perfect for all ages and a real crowd pleaser.
Annie runs May 9th – 21st at the Boch Center Wang Theatre – 270 Tremont Street, Boston, MA. Tickets start at just $35. To learn more about the show or purchase tickets, visit www.bochcenter.org/buy/show-listing/annie-2017
