There’s so much to do, from watching the kids to driving them around to activities, that at times, it can feel like things are out of control. The key to successful family organization is making sure that you have a definitive plan and process for coordinating everything in your household – from your home office to your kids’ schedule. Once you have a process in place, spend just a little bit of time per day organizing, and you’ll end up saving so much time overall. You may not have a large home office, but you’ll definitely need a dedicated home office area. Whether it’s a small desk or a table, be sure to have a place to organize your life. Because I work from home, a few years ago, we changed our never-used dining room into a small home office for me. It’s not only where I work – I also use this area to store paperwork for the kids, pay bills, and keep our financial paperwork organized. When I set out to create my home office, I designed an area that is bright and colorful, so that I want to spend time there. Make it a space that feels relaxing and comfortable.
Personal Productivity Tips
As kids get older, they need less minute-by-minute watching. However, now that I have two tweens, I’m busier than ever. My kids are involved in a number of activities, which means that I spend so much of my time driving them from place to place. I am also responsible for their constantly-overlapping schedules – figuring out which activities to skip and which to attend. Personal productivity is essential.

Keeping your house organized when the kids are constantly messing things up can be difficult, especially when you don’t have a ton of space. In addition, kids often have loads of stuff – from athletic equipment to musical instruments. In order to keep things neat and organized, it’s important that everything have a space. Preparing these spaces up front is a good idea – then you can make sure you put them away each and every time they are used.
