Buying cosmetics can be challenging. It’s important, especially as you get older, to buy colors and tones that are flattering for your skin. When purchasing drugstore cosmetics, it can be hard to evaluate the colors without trying them first. I’ve already written about some of my favorite affordable cosmetics brands – here are some tips for buying the best drugstore makeup.
Drugstore cosmetics’ colors can be very difficult to evaluate. Often the color on the package doesn’t match the color of the product. But that’s often impossible to know without opening the package. Where possible evaluate the color carefully, by looking at the actual product, or obtaining samples. Otherwise, shop at a place that offers a money-back guarantee, so you can return the item if the color isn’t what you expected. Once you find a color that you love, be sure to make note of it so you can buy the same product another time.
I find it easiest to buy products in neutral colors, like brown eyeshadow and black eyeliner. That way, I know the color will work for me. I also typically buy drugstore nail polish, since those products are typically great quality and it’s easy to evaluate the colors through the clear bottles.
Shop the Sales
The best part of shopping at drugstores is shopping the sales. (Check out our CVS app post for some tips on saving money). Unlike department store cosmetics brands, drugstore brands are constantly on sale. You may also find coupons to use. When you get a deal, stock up on your favorites.
Be Cautious With Foundations
It’s essential that any foundation you wear match your skin tone perfectly. That perfect match can be hard to find when you can’t try the product first. Instead of foundation, opt for BB cream, which is more sheer and doesn’t require an exact skin tone match.
