I love the Fourth of July because it’s the perfect summer holiday. We’ve gone away on vacation in the past, but this year, we’ll be home to enjoy the festivities. I created this fun Patriotic rustic Fourth of July Mason jar as a quick way to decorate my house for the holiday. It’s easy to make – you’ll just need two paint brushes, white paint, red paint, a blue Sharpie, and a Mason jar.
I always start my Mason jar projects by washing the jars and wiping them down with alcohol. That will remove any of the oils and dirt on the jar and prep it for painting. Next, I used a large paint brush to paint the entire jar white. Since I like the rustic look for my Mason jar crafts, I don’t worry about streaking the paint. However, I do make sure that I paint in one direction so that the streaks stay consistent.
Let the white paint dry, and then it’s time to paint the red lines. Choose a brush that is the size of the lines you want to paint. I made pretty wide lines, but you can do whatever you prefer. I just freehanded the lines, but I’d recommend measuring them and drawing light lines with a pencil. That way, you’ll be able to keep all of the line spacing consistent.
Once the red paint dries, you can draw the stars with the blue Sharpie. Make sure that the paint is completely dry – otherwise it will stick to the tip of the Sharpie. Draw the stars in a random pattern across the jar.
After everything completely dried, use sandpaper or a nail file to file down some of the paint. That gives it more of a rustic look. Once it’s done, you can put flowers, paper straws, or flags (I bought these at Target) in them.
