If you are a frequent reader here, you know that I spend a lot of time with my office supplies and planners. One of my favorite office supplies is a traveler’s notebook. They aren’t frequently seen in brick and mortar stores, but are readily available from many different online sellers. If you aren’t familiar with traveler’s notebooks, here are some basics about them, as well as links to my favorite sellers. Many of these links are affiliate links, so if you purchase through them, you help support this site.
What is a Traveler’s Notebook?
A traveler’s notebook (or TN) is a leather, fabric, or faux leather piece of material with strings. They hold notebooks, bullet journals, planners, folders, and other things. Items are slipped over the strings, so you’ll want to get a TN with more strings if you want it to hold more than a few inserts.
Generally, the inserts don’t come with the TN, so you have to purchase them separately, but that makes it completely customizable. Depending on the size of the TN (several sizes are available), you can use it as a planner, bullet journal, wallet, notebook, traveler planner, or so much more.
What do you do with a Traveler’s Notebook?
There are so many different uses. If you start out with one, you’ll likely find yourself needing more and more. I use mine for the following:
- Bullet journal
- Planner
- Travel journal/planner
- Blog planner
- Conference notebook
- Household notebook
Where can I buy a Traveler’s Notebook?
This is the fun part – there are SO many different places to buy them. My favorite two spots are the Etsy store Speckled Fawns, and FoxyFix.
You can also find them at other Etsy stores. JetPens.com also has a great selection (along with accessories).
What size is a Traveler’s Notebook?
The original Traveler’s Notebook, created by Midori, is considered the standard size (4.33”x8.25). There are lots of other sizes, however – FoxyFix alone sells 10 different sizes. My favorite is the A5, which works well as a journal, planner, or conference notebook.
Once you find a brand you love, you are likely to want lots of different leathers and sizes.

Where do I Buy Traveler’s Notebook Accessories?
Once you get your first TN, you will want to load it up with accessories. If you purchase from FoxyFix, you’ll be given the option to purchase dashboards and notebooks along with your TN. There are also a number of great accessories on Etsy.
Depending on the size you purchase, I absolutely love May Designs. The classic size fits in an A5, and you can even purchase them with a planner insert.
